Craig Francis is a Dora-nominated playwright, as well as a scriptwriter and marketing copywriter. His writing has been seen in plays in 39 cities, and video shorts have reached over 9 million viewers through the creation of 165 new digital works. Craig was selected for the 2025 Banff Playwrights' Lab to develop his original script CYNIC.
Craig is also a writing mentor for emerging artists. He has mentored Métis theatre artist Andrea Friesen and co-authored her first play Redwood Woman (selected for the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre Pimootayowin 2025 Reading series in Winnipeg, MB). He also mentored visual artist and comedian Martin Rehak in developing his first play script The Adventures of Mr. Ratbag in Wa-Wa Melon Land through the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre in Yellowknife, NT.
Craig enjoys dramaturgy and text work, helping a writer shape their play. He has been the dramaturg on Rick Miller's plays BOOM X, BOOM YZ, and MONEY. Craig has deep experience, having gone through extensive dramaturgy processes with his commissions on Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (New Victory Theater in New York, NY with an AD and dramaturg, Asolo Repertory Theater in Sarasota, FL with AD and dramaturg, McIntyre Hall in Mt. Vernon, WA with collective dramaturgy); Jungle Book (Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, FL with AD and 2 dramaturgs, Young People's Theatre in Toronto, ON with AD and dramaturg); and CYNIC (6 dramaturgical faculty, collective dramaturgy). Craig is experienced at asking and answering vital questions about play scripts.
